The initiation of GDS Holdings’ new 54MW data center campus in Johor, Malaysia, exemplifies the profound influence and capabilities of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in facilitating large-scale developments.

In this project, Mimar served a crucial role in project management, utilizing BIM to its full extent to ensure efficient coordination, timely project delivery, and minimal discrepancies between design and construction. We demonstrated our expertise at the Level of Development (LOD) 400, creating detailed models for accurate execution during construction.

BIM coordination played a crucial role in unifying the architectural, structural, and MEP aspects of this project, leading to an organized and effective workflow. Through detailed clash detection and analysis, potential design conflicts were identified and resolved ahead of time, resulting in considerable cost and time savings.

Furthermore, Mimar leveraged BIM technology to create comprehensive coordination drawings. These drawings provided clear and precise construction guidelines, ensuring accurate alignment with the design intent and significantly reducing the risk of errors during the construction phase.

In addition, Mimar adopted a 4D control and planning methodology, associating the project timeline with the BIM model. This approach allowed us to visualize project milestones in the context of physical construction, enhancing project management efficiency and making progress tracking more precise.

The GDS data center, which boasts a gross floor area of 22,500 sqm and a 54MW power capacity, stands as a beacon of cutting-edge technological integration in the field of construction. Located in the Nusajaya Tech Park in Johor, this project’s successful completion highlights the robust capabilities of BIM in managing large-scale projects, echoing Mimar’s commitment to innovation and excellence in the construction industry.
